Critical Contexts – Digital Art (IDAT203)

Module Aim:

“This module provides students with opportunity to further develop their multimedia design and production skills, but places an emphasis on a critical understanding of the relationship of their work to other forms of cultural production in both historical and contemporary context. In response to a set brief students are required to negotiate production of their project and to thoroughly underpin their project with an in-depth theoretical context encountered in the program of lectures and seminars.

To encourage understanding and to evaluate impact of traditional art practices in 20th century on contemporary
multimedia practices.
To encourage understanding of a critical context of contemporary multimedia practice.
To further develop experimental practical digital media work in response to a set brief.
To further develop oral and written presentation skills while critically engaging with major theoretical debates and artistic paradigms.”
