A New Flickr Account

28th July, 2007

Now I have discovered some of the limitations of the free flickr account, such as a maximum of 200 photos and only 3 sets it was time to upgrade and since then I have been uploading hundreds of old photos from as far back as 2003, when I first got my digital camera.

Its quite a large task I’ve set myself, especially since I would like to tag all of them and get some form of reasonable order going.

Experimental Photoshop

28th June, 2007

An experiment I started all the way back when I was on holiday in Florida during my easter ‘break’ from i-dat (where I managed to complete both my idat203 project and do all the JSP coding for the final soft221 project), and forgot about/didn’t have time to fully explore until now.

The Courtyard Planet

I’d seen something like this done before but cannot remember where. It is an interesting use of a panoramic shot to say the least.

Vista PC

17th June, 2007

Now that my PC isn’t critical to my activities, I decided to give Windows Vista a go. I started off by buying a simple new SATA harddisk, which should have been exceptionally easy to install until I discovered that it came supplied with the disk and an engrish manual/2-by-4 sheet of paper with nonsense-instructions printed, and absolutely nothing else. Because I have SATA cables and jumper pins growing in magical pots ten to the dozen here it was fine…

Actually what this really meant was I had to go on an unnecessary search for these things but eventually all was fine and I had a third HDD within my PC. I attempted to install Vista on the new disk while disconnecting the old ones so as to preserve my XP setup but something in the BIOS didn’t like this, and it ended up not detecting the SATA drive.

Doves

8th June, 2007

Following a visit to the royal cornwall show, we have picked up a pair of doves to occupy the dovecote. However one escaped after a few days so we have improved the enclosure and found three more to join the original.

Site Progress

6th June, 2007

So I’ve got a Home, Journal and About page all reasonably the same style so now its time to tackle the portfolio area.

Hmmm, so. Two year’s worth of i-Dat coursework and a complete mess of folders/urls online. And as well as that, I never really got around to arranging some of my artwork into a decent section of its own which I always wanted. Therefore I went about unearthing old sketchbooks and the likes and took a few photos to edit to size.

On another note I have become more and more appreciative of the pen tool in Flash. Originally my flash pieces would be based on the theory that if actionscript couldn’t animate it, then I’d import my graphics as raw photoshop PSD files. But vector stuff is simply more cool.

Placements

31st May, 2007

So now I’m in an odd situation now where I await the response of two companies following a morning with the people behind tellonline.com, and still no sound from Company of Designers (so I’m not feeling especially hopeful there). The latter gave me the impression that they were looking more for someone to fill a fulltime position rather than a placement student, and will probably want to hold on in the hope that they find someone more appropriate.

Tell Systems on the other hand were looking specifically for a student, and I feel that I might be better suited for the skills that they are looking for anyway. Despite the fact that I think I may have seemed a bit bewildered by it all on the morning, I really do hope that I get this position.

The final hurdle of the month is this afternoon at three, when I take my driving theory test. Interestingly, it is today that my hazard perception disk tells me its run out of clips.

Green

27th May, 2007

It has to be said, that the colour green is my favourite. It tends to feature predominantly in a lot of my work, and my new website design is not an exception to this.

To take my mind off things of which there are still many currently, I have decided to try and finish a photoshop project started roughly just before my second year.

Mixed Day

5th May, 2007

Ok, so its my brother’s 18th birthday which means that instead of revising for the AI exam I have plenty of distractions.

Some good news in the form of our idat205 Eden Game has been uploaded to the Eden Project’s website, and has been featured in a BBC news press release!

New Website Design in production

Meanwhile I am working to produce a new website design, which I am happy fulfils every intricate criteria I am striving for, and replace the current site which was a result of mashed together previous attempts with the aim of trying to keep everything active. So essentially EVERYTHING needs to be replaced and unified. This is of course while I am heating up the search for a placement.

Other Stuff

Seems relevant to the impacts of digital media as studied in idat203 –
