Final Year Options

February 29th, 2008

The time has come for me to decide which final year modules I shall be taking for i-dat and its shaped up thus:

Dissertation (20 credits) and BSc Project (40 credits) - these aren’t exactly optional, they must be done.

IDAT310 Design for Entertainment Systems (20 credits) - we’ve already formed a group to work on this with and hence…

IDAT323 Programming for Entertainment Systems (20 credits) - …someone will need to have studied the programming side. I also expect to be able to use 3D, DirectX and C++ perhaps in my final year project.

IDAT311 Scripting for Digital Media (10 credits Autumn term) - Some hopefully familiar turf studying OOP in Flash and producing ’something that does something’.

IDAT312 Narrative and Digital Form (10 credits Spring term) - should be nice apparently to study while writing my own dissertation.

I’ve also realised this is the only time I can post on this date for another four years…

Ocean Addict Website

February 20th, 2008

I am currently working on the Ocean Addict website now alongside several other projects, for which we have decided to use Wordpress as a form of CMS and integrate it with other features such as e-commerce software, a gallery and a forum.

Here is a preview of my current direction of design…

Website Design Inspiration

February 12th, 2008

Because it is becoming a common occurence that I find a website that I find particularly inspirational, whether that be for its graphical design or a particular way of structuring what would normally be a very ordinary feature, and never really noting down the URL.

Now I could tag these sites using del.icio.us under something like ‘inspiration’ but I think I would rather also have more specific information or notes and possibly a screenshot to add some context.

So I shall be recording these websites on a page here.

About Me

I am a web designer/digital artist currently studying BSc Digital Art and Technology in Plymouth University. I have returned for my fourth and final year of the course following my year in an industrial placement with the web design company Neovirtua and my own freelance work.

So far I have developed a wide range of skills, from producing videos using 3D software to gaining an aptitude for learning numerous programming languages. This is all on top of my original enthusiasm for art and HTML.

Puzzle Flash

Based on a couple of puzzles I received a long time ago, this flash generates a random puzzle and then jumbles the pieces up for the player to solve.

Puzzle Flash game mini screenshot The flash actionscript behind this is flexible enough to allow for any size puzzle to be created and jumbled as many times as I like. In addition to this, the difficulty of rotating pieces is also a feature.
