New Site Design Underway

30th August, 2009

I have actually been slowly working on this (slowly being a bit of an understatement) for a while but keep having to put it off for other commitments. Usually this means I get a bit of time when I’m tired and not up to doing much else and a stint on Fallout III is only going to make things worse.

However here are a couple more screenshots of a general basic layout and more button-y bits since the last lot of menu icons!

Basic Layout

Other plans include a bigger better blog post preview image, related posts links, using the excerpt field of posts and some form of proper search function that includes AJAX-ed suggestions.

Experimenting with HLSL

17th April, 2009

After quite a lot of effort, adding, swapping and killing code I’ve started to get away from having HLSL turning everything a shade of utter grey.

The screenshots show my water mesh which will be one of a few features of this virtual environment which responds to biofeedback data from the avatar’s user.

Avatar Model

13th April, 2009

My Initial 3D avatar model idea mocked up in 3D:

The idea is to represent a more traditional aesthetic of meditation, providing a connection between the project and the field of biofeedback’s origins.

Also the development of the environment and the terrain mesh:

Game Screenshot

10th February, 2009

Having finished linking animations to actual realtime world movement I thought it was time for another screenshot since the game is really coming together. Here you can observe a character jumping down from a height while the blocks get revealed by the map movement mid-transition.

Also below are a couple of power up objects.

Looking into Second Life

24th January, 2009

It seems a rather long time ago now, but before starting the final year I decided to look into the world of Second Life because I knew vaguely that I would be including it in my dissertation study and knew that I couldn’t possibly write about it without trying it first.

But as I say, that really does seem a long time ago so I had a small go again to familiarise myself with how it worked and how stupid my online avatar looked :)

Here I am exploring Lilly’s Irish Pub, one of the more refined and complete areas I discovered in my original visit.

DirectX Coursework 1

22nd January, 2009

Since I thought the fish looked a bit odd without its limbs I’ve decided to post another screenshot, this time of it actually running in DirectX and with the animated parts:

(Only after I took this and put it online did I notice the comments in the background…)
